The Buckeye Quarter Midget Racing Association hosted the 3rd race of the 6 race 2014-2015 season this past Saturday (Jan. 10th). In continuing different things, this was a qualifying event. Qualifying had not been done for many years so this presented an opportunity for new track records to be set.  The competition didn’t disappoint the club as 5 new track records (pending tire tests) were set.
The 5 new record holders are:
1.   Bryce Lucius – Jr. Honda (Little Kalamzoo Speedway)
2.   Jacob Denney – Sr. Animal (BQMRA)
3.   Cayden Hoyt – Lt World Formula (Little Kalamazoo Speedway)
4.   Zeb Wise – Hvy 160 (NWOQMRA)
5.   Carson Hocevar – Hvy Honda (Little Kalamazoo Speedway)
The Buckeye club was prepared for track records to fall. They hired expert technical supervisors to assist series Tech Director, Larry Ebert in checking record-breaking engines. Rick Tomason and Steve Stickle were on hand to tear engines down for inspection and to check fuel.  Although it made for a long evening, the Buckeye club is very happy to report that all engines passed tech with no problems. In addition to these tests, tires samples were taken from EACH of the new record braking cars.
The racing was, as usual, spectacular. One race in particular, Sr. Honda, saw Billy Green come from 11th place to 2nd place, challenging Birthday Boy, Jacob Denney, for the lead. This happened approximately halfway through the race. Denney just barely held off Green for the win. They put on an outstanding show.
The diversity in clubs, cars, engines and drivers assures that the Buckeye Indoors will continue to be the benchmark for racing in the middle of the winter. Anyone who takes home a win from the Indoors can hold their head high and proudly state they are an Indoors Champ.
The Buckeye Club would like to extend a warm Thank You to all that braved the single digit temperatures to race with us. As in the past, there were teams that came from New Jersey, Michigan, North Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky….The next race will be held on January 21st. The Featured classes will be Heavy Honda and Light AA, these classes will have on track driver introductions.

The 4th race of the 6 race Buckeye Indoor Winter Nationals Series was a huge success. Participants came from New jersey, Delaware, North Carolina, Michigan, and others….to compete in 14 different classes. Continuing what has been in place since the first race, the Rookie class was extremely well attended with 21 Rookie families in attendance. They came from all over the U.S., taking part in the Rookie classroom-training program and then hitting the track. The featured classes for the main event were Heavy Honda and Light AA. Lexi Pohlman and Gage Painter were the respective winners.

Prior to the Features, the Buckeye club was proud to conduct a very special awards ceremony to the 5 new track record holders from the previous (January 10th) race. Briggs and Stratton stepped up to the plate and sponsored EACH of the new records. These new records included: Jr. Honda, Sr. Animal, Heavy 160, Lt World Formula and Heavy Honda. A very special thanks to Briggs and Stratton for helping the Buckeye club acknowledge these kids in a manner they deserve.

The weather was awesome for this event, which made getting to and from the race a non-issue. The Buckeye club is looking forward to hosting everyone for the next race on February 7th.  As there is another major event taking place in town that weekend, the Buckeye club suggests booking hotel rooms immediately. This event will feature a very unique giveaway of a new Briggs and Stratton Generator. All Briggs entrants will be entered into a drawing to win this awesome prize. The featured classes for the next race will be Sr. Animal and Heavy World Formula. These classes will have on track, individual driver introductions. The format will consist of a pill draw with Heats and Lower Mains.

February 7th, the 5th race of the 6 race Buckeye Indoors Series was a great success. The weather was beautiful for families that travelled from as far away as Colorado and Delaware to compete in the countries most unique and unbiased racing venue.

As with the previous races, the Rookie turnout was spectacular with 24 Rookies taking part in the unique classroom sessions and then the track. Each of the Indoor events has had over 20 Rookies taking part. The Buckeye club has a nationwide reputation for training, coaching and encouraging kids to begin their racing career Indoors.

These Rookies will be well ahead of their competition as the various clubs start racing this Spring.  The Buckeye Indoors is widely viewed as the best learning experience anywhere in the country.

According to Chad Wise, from Angola, Indiana:
“The Buckeye Indoors is ABSOLUTELY the best place to learn how to successfully pass in a race. The unique track configuration makes the kids look at things differently but in a way that is very helpful when returning to traditional racetracks. It is always very obvious who raced Indoors and who took the Winter off.”

The highlight of this event was the giveaway of a new generator provided by Briggs and Stratton. The winner, by random drawing, was Chase Hyland from Cherry Hills, Colorado. His name was drawn from his Light World Formula sign-in card.

The Buckeye club is excited to announce another giveaway for the February 21st race. This giveaway is a fully race prepared Animal engine from Baker Racing Engines, the preeminent engine builder for Quarter Midgets. All entrants will be eligible for this random drawing.
