Title: 2011 rule question
Post by: A and J Racing on January 09, 2011, 03:48:42 PM
James can you help me by clarifying this please.
If the car loses the tail cone during qualifying does he get checkered and required to leave the track or does he finish his laps and take a no time if the tail cone is out of the way? Or is it a different ruling dependent on the qualifying procedure used?
1702.6. If a car loses its tail cone during qualifying they will immediately receive the
checkered flag and must leave the racing surface. Their fastest qualifying lap will
be their qualifying time or if no laps were completed they will receive a No Time.
1702.20.a. a. If a car loses its tail cone during qualifying and the tail cone does not pose a
hazard to the cars on the track they may continue the qualifying laps or time that
remains. The car losing its tail cone will receive a no time. If the tail cone is in a
position to create a hazard to the cars on the track, they will be shown a black
flag and must exit the track immediately. The car losing its tail cone is finished
and will receive the fastest qualifying time while on the track. The other cars will
re-qualify after the next batch of cars.

Thanks Rodney

1702.6 This rule is for qualifying only one car at a time.
1702.20 This rule is for "batch" qualifying.
