Title: Need someone's help
Post by: kevin05 on November 05, 2008, 10:35:54 PM
I'm trying to locate and purchase some pictures of Gary B's sprint car, but I'm having a hard time narrowing down the time frame in which the car ran. I'm looking for pictures of the car that had the motor layed over on its side. I believe it ran the Copper Classic and maybe at IRP before it was outlawed. Can anybody help me with a time frame??

If you are talking about Gary Bettenhausen's sprint car that he built and campaigned primarily on pavement tracks as #99 (usually), it ran from about 1976 to about 1981, I think.  If I remember correctly, he brought it to Salem for the July 4 race, hot lapped it, but was not allowed to race it.  For pictures, try locating some Sprint Car Pictorials produced by Gene Crucean and John Mahoney.  Might also try to locate some Open Wheel magazines from that era.
