Title: Starting the Briggs Animal
Post by: sprintcar39 on March 31, 2010, 08:37:34 AM
I have watched many people struggle starting the Briggs Animal and thought it might be good to post some starting tips I have learned.

1. switch off until you have the car moving at a good pace. DO NOT have the switch on when you are starting to push it off.
2. when it is rolling good - hit the switch and just give it a little gas. DO NOT pump the throttle.
3. as it fires slowly give it some additional throttle and away you go.
4. and warn your driver not to give it full throttle when it fires or most handlers find themselves with nothing to hold them up anymore and end up on the race track.

SWITCH OFF UNTIL ROLLING GOOD !!!

Yeah, like me! That really hurt!!  :'(

We tap on the driver's helmet to get him to flip the switch.

We also found that it really helps to warm up the motor before we go out.

GREAT POST ERIC!!!

One thing I'll add

When warm, do like Eric said but push the car 30 to 40 feet then start. If it begins to kick, shut off and do it over.

The thing we have learned is that getting the car moving at a good pace is by far the most important.  As we witnessed on Saturday, it doesn't seem to matter if you lift the rear of the car up or if you push it all the way around the track (sometimes twice), if you don't get it moving pretty good, it ain't gonna fire.

Eric - Thanks for this post on starting the animal. Should really help everyone. I would also like to remind everyone running the animal to make sure you have an inline fuel filter between the fuel tank and carb.

Thanks
Steve
